Xbox Mobile Store being prepared by Microsoft?

Recent reports reveal that Microsoft is most likely preparing an Xbox Mobile Store to rival Google and Apple.

This information was published by The Verge. If you are interested in the state of the video game industry, you can check out our other articles here.

Report: Microsoft Prepares Xbox Mobile Store

The Verge reports that Microsoft presented documents to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) claiming that the purchase of Activision Blizzard was, in part, to expand their mobile gaming presence.

This transaction will enhance Microsoft’s ability to create a next-generation game store that operates across multiple devices, including mobile as a result of the addition of Activision Blizzard content. Building on Activision Blizzard’s existing community of gamers, Xbox will look to scale the Xbox Store to mobile, attracting gamers to the new Xbox Mobile Platform.

Shifting consumers away from Google Play Store and App Store on mobile devices, however, will require a major shift in consumer behavior. Microsoft hopes that by offering well-known and popular content, gamers will be more inclined to try something new.

Recently, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer told The Wall Street Journal’s Tech Live conference about their plans for the Xbox Mobile Store.

If you’re taking a long-term bet that we’ll be able to get access to players on Android and iOS, we want to be in a position with a storefront to take advantage of that.

It is still unclear exactly what the Xbox Mobile Store will look like, but it will probably be a more dedicated way for users to purchase and play games through Xbox Cloud Gaming directly from their phone.
