Former Sony Interactive Entertainment executive Shawn Layden has announced that he is joining Tencent as a strategic advisor.

Shawn Layden has joined Tencent as a strategic advisor. On LinkedIn and Twitter, Layden announced that he would “advise, support and guide Tencent’s team as they deepen their activities and engagement in the industry.”

I’m happy to share that I recently joined Tencent Games as a strategic advisor. In this new role, I look forward to advising, assisting and supporting the team at Tencent as they deepen their activities and commitment in the industry to which I have dedicated most of my career.

We are at a defining moment in the world of gaming and interactive entertainment. There are many possible paths forward, but few are deep, expansive, inclusive, educational, inspiring, and/or sustainable. I am excited to continue this journey of discovery and thank Tencent for the opportunity.

Tencent has invested in more than 800 companies and is one of the largest companies in the world by market value.

Tencent not only owns Riot Games, but also has a 40% stake in Epic Games and holds shares in Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, Krafton, PlatinumGames and Marvelous.
