Hideo Kojima rejects acquisition offer, wants to remain independent

Speaking on episode #10 of the Hideo Kojima presents Brain Structure podcast with Geoff Keighley, Hideo Kojima admitted that he had received many “very high” acquisition offers to sell Kojima Productions, but all of which he declined.

Kojima did not name the company that offered him, but it confirms that there are many companies that would like to bring Kojima and his team into their fold.

However, Kojima reiterated that he only wants to make games that he is interested in.

Let me reiterate that we are indie, we don’t have any affiliations and are not backed by anyone, and are on good terms with everyone in the industry.

Every day I am approached by offers from all over the world to buy our studio. Some of those offers were very high priced, but it’s not that I wanted money. I want to make what I want to make. That’s why I created this studio. So as long as I’m alive, I don’t think I’ll ever accept those offers.

As an independent, Kojima has the freedom to partner with whomever he likes. While Death Stranding 2 will most likely be a PlayStation exclusive, Kojima could also team up with Xbox to work on a project he’s interested in.
