7 Strongest God Of War Weapons
1. Blades of Chaos
We start this list with the game’s iconic weapon, the Blades of Chaos. Blades of Chaos is the strongest God Of War weapon which is a pair of chained swords made by the God of War named Ares. Ares had a blade made for a servant who proved worthy to serve him. These blades are the first pair of chain blades that Kratos uses in the God of War Series. The Blades of Chaos were forged in the darkest depths of the Underworld by Ares himself.
These two swords are filled with fire, which allows them to ignite with every attack made by the wielder. The chains of this sword will stretch for a set distance with each strike, and allow for fatal strikes regardless of who is wielding it. This sword chain is permanently linked to the user’s arm, serving as a reminder of their oath to the God of War.
2. Talon bow
The second in the list of strongest God Of War weapons is the Talon Bow. The Talon Bow is God Of War’s strongest weapon which is the main weapon of Atreus and first appeared in the God of War game released in 2018. This longbow was made from a yew tree by Atreus’ mother, who also taught him how to use it during hunting practice. Atreus’ mother made it bigger than usual so that Atreus could grow with this bow. The Talon Bow is used in conjunction with the quiver that houses the arrows.
During the journey, the Forest Witch gave the bow a magical string endowed with the light of Alfheim to bless the arrow with that light, which was useful in activating the Elves‘ light crystals to create a solid bridge of light. Later, Sindri used the teeth of Hræzlyr, a dragon from the highest peak of Midgar, who had just been slain to bless the bowstring with the lightning power of the Dragon.
3. Leviathan Axe
The third strongest God Of War weapons is the Leviathan Axe. The Leviathan Axe is a two-handed battle axe that is Kratos’ primary weapon in the 2018 version of God of War and God of War Ragnarök. This axe was forged by the Huldra brothers, none other than Sindri and Brok, who also forged Thor’s Mjölnir hammer after they felt responsible for the destruction wrought by the God of Thunder.
As the strongest God of War weapons created to counter the power of Mjölnir and inspired by the appropriate size of the epic Jörmungandr, Brok suggested the axe be named Leviathan. According to Sindri when he first saw the Leviathan Axe, this weapon was infused with the echoing screams of twenty Frost Trolls, and this axe was made to be given to Laufey who then passed it on to her husband, Kratos right before her death. The axe had several runes inscribed on the blade that gave it different powers.
4. Nemean Cestus
God Of War’s fourth most powerful weapon is the Nemean Cestus. The Nemean Cestus is a weapon that first appeared in God of War III and briefly in the Multiplayer mode of God of War: Ascension. This weapon is a pair of large metal gauntlets, each forged to resemble the head of a snarling lion, which greatly increases the user’s strength when worn. The Nemean Cestus was a blessing to its original owner, Hercules, after he killed the Nemean Lion as one of his 12 followers.
Kratos can also use the Nemean Cestus in Mortal Kombat as part of his arsenal. He uses this weapon as the second hit of his X-Ray Attack, as well as the final hit of one of his Fatalities. Nemean Cestus has a chain on the inside, which allows for some ranged combat featured in certain attacks. This weapon can also be used to dodge in the same way as the Claws of Hades.
5. Arms of Sparta
The next strongest God Of War weapon is the Arms of Sparta. The Arms of Sparta is an addition to Kratos’ arsenal in God of War: Ghost of Sparta. Kratos used those weapons to destroy enemies years ago when he was a general in the Spartan Army, before serving Ares and receiving the Blades of Chaos and the Blades of Athena. The Last Spartan took care of the spear and shield while Kratos was away serving Ares, and handed them back to Kratos after he visited the Temple of Ares in Sparta.
This weapon focuses on one-on-one combat, similar to how the Spear of Destiny was used in God of War II as a ranged weapon. The spear also serves as a ranged weapon in the game, while the shield acts as Kratos’ defense, allowing him to charge forward while he also parries attacks, which is a first in the God of War Series.
6. Claws of Hades
The Next of the strongest God Of War weapons is the Claws of Hades. The Claws of Hades is a chain weapon previously used by the God of the Underworld, whose name is Hades. This weapon was later obtained by Kratos after the death of Hades. During the Great War, Hades was seen fighting with this weapon. The Claws of Hades are described as a set of spiked chains with two hooks at the end each of which glows a pale purple.
This weapon-making scene is seen in one of the cutscenes in God of War II, where Hades rips Atlas’ soul and absorbs it. The chain in the Claws of Hades is an extremely deadly weapon as it allows Hades to attack from both close and long distances. This weapon glowed with a dark purplish aura that indicated the number of souls it had absorbed. By absorbing countless souls, the power and speed of these chain attacks increased.
7. Blade of Olympus
The last of the strongest God Of War weapons is the Blade of Olympus. The Blade of Olympus is a powerful weapon that appears in God of War: Ghost of Sparta, God of War II, and God of War III. This weapon was created by Zeus, who forged it from Heaven and Earth, during the end of the Great War to drive the Titans into Tartarus, ending this brutal war once and for all. The Blade of Olympus was created during the First Titanomachy by Zeus as a means to end the war.
After Atlas’ defeat, Zeus returned to the battlefield and used his new weapon. He pushed the sword to the ground and chanted that he drove the Titans into the depths of Tartarus. It created a huge vortex that engulfed the entire battlefield, but only sent the Titans to Tartarus where they remained chained until Kratos freed them.
