Ubisoft Punishes 19 Thousand Accounts Using Mysterious Exploits

Through its Twitter account, Ubisoft announced that it had penalized nearly 19,000 accounts for using unspecified exploits.

We have recently identified accounts using fraudulent exploits in our games. Ubisoft has a zero tolerance policy towards fraudulent practices in accordance with our Code of Conduct. As a result, we will be applying account-level sanctions to the nearly 19k accounts involved.

Ubisoft did not respond to user requests for more specific information, although players of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege speculated that it was their game that was subjected to mysterious “fraudulent practices” in the form of “duping”.

“Duping” is a way of duplicating that has been utilized by players of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege for the past 8 years. The latest version involves linking and unlinking Xbox accounts to save multiple iterations of the same skin.

When one version of the exploit fails, another appears and often leads to people getting copies of expensive Elite skins for free.

Another possibility is “Mousetrap”. Ubisoft says that they will seriously discourage input spoofing (using adapters to disguise your mouse and keyboard as improper controllers).

Whatever the speculation on the matter, Ubisoft’s vaunted 19k account sanctions could be the fruit of their labor. But without confirmation from Ubisoft themselves, there’s no way to know.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will be distributed on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store).
