Ubisoft Cancels 3 Internal Projects, Skull and Bones Delayed Again

Ubisoft has revealed that they’ve canceled 3 internal projects and Skull and Bones was pushed back to an uncertain date.

This information was announced by Ubisoft in its latest financial report. If you’re interested in Ubisoft’s games, you can check out our other articles here.

Ubisoft Cancels 3 Internal Projects

Ubisoft has canceled 3 unannounced projects and delayed Skull and Bones again.

In July 2022, Ubisoft revealed that they had canceled Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Frontline, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell VR, and 2 other unannounced projects.

Ubisoft said that they “face a huge challenge as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and long-lasting titles rather than those that can reach players across the globe, across platforms and business models”.

Ubisoft noted that they spent the last 4 years trying to adapt Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, and Tom Clancy’s The Division to this convergent trend.

“However, the games from this investment phase are yet to be released, while our recent launches have not performed as well as expected,” Ubisoft said.

Skull and Bones Delayed Again

For Skull and Bones, the game will now arrive “early” in Ubisoft’s next fiscal year which runs from April 2023 to March 2024.

Below is Ubisoft’s official statement to Kotaku:

While Skull and Bones is now complete, we’re using the time remaining until our launch to utilize feedback from ongoing Technical Tests and upcoming open betas to polish and balance the experience.

To fully realize this launch, we are leveraging the full power of the co-development studios already involved in the development process, including the Ubisoft Paris studio. Ubisoft Singapore remains the lead studio on Skull and Bones and the team is working at full speed on the gameplay experience and development of its robust post-launch content.

Skull and Bones can be played on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Luna, and PC (Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store, Microsoft Store).
