Take-Two Interactive and People Can Fly have officially announced that they are terminating the development and publishing agreement relating to Project Dagger.

Project Dagger is a new action-adventure IP developed over the past 2 years by the People Can Fly team in New York.

In the announcement, People Can Fly has retained the Project Dagger IP rights and Take-Two Interactive has not stated its intention to purchase the IP. As such, People Can Fly can continue to develop the project as it sees fit.

The advance paid to People Can Fly will be repaid “depending on the model in which the game will be commercialized”, whether it is self-published or in collaboration with other publishers.

I assume we will part ways on good terms and I see no reason why we can’t work with Take-Two on some other projects in the future.

We strongly believe in the potential of Project Dagger and are now committed to continuing its development within our self-publishing pipeline. The game is still in pre-production and our team is now focusing on closed combat and game loops as well as the migration from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5.

I am aware that this decision will add investment for us, but self-publishing is part of our strategy. Of course, we do not rule out working with new publishers if this creates interesting business opportunities.

Sebastian Wojciechowski, CEO of People Can Fly

People Can Fly currently has 6 other projects in the works besides Project Dagger. This includes Project Bifrost and Project Victoria which will be self-published along with Project Gemini which will be published by Square Enix.

They also have 2 ongoing VR projects and another game that is still in the concept stage.
