Motoi Okamoto: I Want Indie Studios to Share Silent Hill Game Ideas

Speaking with IGN Japan, Motoi Okamoto was asked about a number of Silent Hill titles announced in October 2022 and mostly handled by independent studios.

There’s only so much we can do on our own, which means we need to work with many different indie creators if we want to make many different Silent Hill.

That’s why we moved to work with people around the world who want to make Silent Hill games and approached Bloober Team, as well as Anapurna Interactive and No Code.

Okamoto went on to explain that the October 2022 announcement did not mark the end of Konami’s plans for Silent Hill, as he is now actively accepting new ideas from other studios.

Unfortunately, there were some projects that never really got off the ground. However, I think the number of projects we have will only continue to grow.

The fact that we’re reviving Silent Hill was a secret until now, so we couldn’t really come out and shout, ‘Hey, everyone! Bring us your Silent Hill projects!’

We can do it now, so if creators from around the world who love Silent Hill bring their pitches to us, I promise to look at every single one of them. We’re all ears.

At the end of the interview, Okamoto gave his final statement:

We have announced a number of new titles in addition to this remake. I knew from the beginning of the project that just a single remake wouldn’t be enough for players to consider it a revival of the series. Unfortunately, there are some projects that never got off the ground, but we’ve talked to a lot of creators and are still discussing a lot about what to do going forward.

I was happy to see that players reacted to Silent Hill f which is a Japanese-style horror game, with stronger interest than I expected. The future of Silent Hill will only continue. I think what’s important about the series is that it’s unique, very artistic and original, and I want to keep focusing on that.
