Square Enix has announced that Yosuke Matsuda will step down as president and representative director of Square Enix and be replaced by Takashi Kiryu.

These changes will be formally finalized pending approval by the 34th annual general meeting of shareholders in June 2023 and a board of directors meeting to be held thereafter.

The reasons for Matsuda’s resignation are as follows:

Under the rapid changes in the business environment surrounding the entertainment industry, the proposed changes are intended to reshape the management team to adopt evolving technological innovations and maximize the group’s [Square Enix Holdings Co. Ltd.] creativity to deliver even better entertainment to its customers worldwide.

Yosuke Matsuda has served as the president of Square Enix since June 2013, when he replaced the former president, Yoichi Wada. In addition, Matsuda also appeared as a boss in NieR: Automata alongside former PlatinumGames president, Kenichi Sato.
