The Failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Costs Warner Bros. 200 Million USD
In its Q1 2024 financial report, Warner Bros. Discovery said that its Games division’s revenue declined significantly as a result of a tough comparison with Hogwarts Legacy.
According to Warner Bros Discovery, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League “generated significantly lower revenue” compared to the revenue generated by Hogwarts Legacy during the same Q1 period.
In a Q&A session, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, called the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League “disappointing” before Warner Bros. Discovery CFO, Gunnar Wiedenfels, detailed the impairment charges the company had to bear as a result of the game’s failure.
“Starting with the studio, the $400 million-plus year-over-year decline during Q1 was primarily due to the very tough competition we faced in gaming against the success of Hogwarts Legacy in 2023 in Q1, along with the disappointing release of Suicide Squad this Q1, which we took a charge for, leading to a $200 million impact on EBITDA during Q1,” Wiedenfels said as written by IGN.
EBITDA stands for “earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization”. If interpreted, EBITA is earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC(Steam, Epic Games Store).
