Sony Removes Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Trailer, License Issues?

A collaboration between Aspyr, Lucasfilm Games, and Sony Interactive Entertainment, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was announced to release on PS5 and PC via PlayStation Showcase in September 2021.

However, it was recently discovered that tweets from PlayStation regarding the game have been removed, while its announcement trailer on YouTube has been made private.

This has led to speculation that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake could be the latest casualty of Embracer Group’s restructuring program.

In 2022, Bloomberg reported that Aspyr had stopped working on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake and Saber Interactive took over the project completely.

Journalist at Axios, Stephen Totilo, later obtained a statement from Sony Interactive Entertainment that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake trailer was removed due to music licensing issues.

As part of normal business, we write off assets with licensed music when they expire.

It’s still unclear why the music license issue could be the reason for the removal of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake reference and trailer, considering that there are many trailers out there that have Lucasfilm Games’ music license and are still watchable.
