Microsoft: Sony Could Develop Call of Duty Rival in 10 Years

Microsoft revealed that they believe 10 years is long enough for Sony Interactive Entertainment to develop a rival project for the Call of Duty franchise.

This information was published by Microsoft in a response to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). If you are interested in games from Activision Blizzard, you can check out our other articles here.

Microsoft: Sony could develop Call of Duty rival in 10 years

In a recently published document, Microsoft told CMA that they believe a decade is long enough for Sony Interactive Entertainment to create an alternative to Call of Duty.

At the Remedies Hearing, the CMA asked Microsoft whether the 10-year duration was sufficient and whether there would be a ‘deep chasm’ for Sony at the end of this period. The 10-year term is [redacted].

Microsoft felt that 10 years was enough time for Sony, as the leading publisher and console platform, to develop an alternative to Call of Duty.

The 10-year period will be extended to the next generation of consoles [redacted]. In addition, the practical effect of this fix will extend beyond 10 years, as games downloaded in the last year of the fix can continue to be played for the life of the console (and beyond, with backward compatibility).

Dalam tanggapan mereka kepada CMA, Sony Interactive Entertainment berargumen bahwa tidak mungkin bagi mereka untuk menggantikan Call of Duty jika franchise ini tidak lagi tersedia di PlayStation.

In another part of the document, Microsoft responded to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s concerns that Microsoft would sabotage PlayStation versions of Call of Duty games in the future.

Microsoft claims that its current proposal will encourage Call of Duty developers and publishers to create PlayStation versions optimized for the platform.

Since Microsoft will be shipping Call of Duty on PlayStation according to its overhaul commitment… Microsoft will have every incentive to develop games with optimized support for PS5 features like haptics and future consoles to maximize sales on the platform.
