Speaking with Game Informer, Naoki Hamaguchi was asked about his favorite RPG and he immediately answered The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

“Regarding titles like The Witcher 3, which has open world role-playing type elements, we did extensive research into that type of title and saw it as a baseline where Rebirth should be the type of title that can stand next to it and have the type of content that would satisfy its players,” Toriyama said.

Hamaguchi estimates that about 80% of the exploration-based content in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is side content, while the remaining 20% is the main story.

“Seeing that Remake is set in the world of Midgar, where players can explore within the area, we put a lot of emphasis on story elements and focused on a more narrative-based game for Remake,” Hamaguchi said.

“Now that we’re getting into the outside world and moving forward in that direction, I have a desire to portray more feelings of exploration and I firmly believe this can be achieved for Rebirth.”

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will release on PS5 on February 29, 2024.
