Leak: SEGA Close to Finalizing Rovio Acquisition

Recent reports have revealed that SEGA SAMMY Holdings is close to reaching an agreement to buy Angry Birds developer Rovio Entertainment for around USD 1 billion.

SEGA close to completing Rovio acquisition?

The Wall Street Journal has reported that SEGA SAMMY Holdings is close to reaching an agreement to acquire Rovio Entertainment for approximately 1 billion USD. According to the publication, the deal could be finalized as early as next week assuming talks do not fall through or drag on.

In response to the report, a SEGA representative told Axios:

No official decision has been made regarding the deal. SEGA continues to consider how best to increase the value of its company.

In January 2023, Playtika announced a proposal to buy Rovio for approximately 800 million USD, but the discussions ended at the end of March 2023 without an acquisition.

Playtika has been interested in Rovio since it made an initial offer of 8.50 euros per share to Rovio’s board of directors in November 2022.
