Riot Games: Wild Rift Esports Plans Outside Asia Canceled

Riot Games has announced that it will refocus Wild Rift Esports on Asia in 2023 and leave other regions behind.

In a post from Riot Games‘ president of esports, John Needham, he said that the decision was motivated by the Asian continent being “the largest and most active mobile esports market in the world”.

The new Wild Rift League in Asia will be Riot’s first cross-regional professional mobile esports league and will replace Wild Rift Esports (WRE) in April 2023.

The competition will involve 12 teams from China’s Wild Rift League and 8 teams from other countries in Asia.

While Riot Games will not directly operate Wild Rift esports leagues outside of Asia, the company will “open up opportunities for third parties to host events”.

League of Legends: Wild Rift is available for iOS and Android.
