Project Fantasy Description
It’s now been 1 decade since we first envisioned creating a new “World of Assassination” for our HITMAN game. 7 years ago, we launched this world in its infancy and nurtured it until it grew to 3 full games, exciting new game modes, many additional locations, and additional targets.
More importantly, it allowed us to build a bond with our community that has supported us ever since. We have grown from a strong vision, through many unexpected events, to the ever-evolving world with the freedom of approach to its core that we have today.
Now we share with you that we are about to embark on a new adventure! An adventure that expands our creativity, our capabilities, and in some ways, our identity. We are building a new world, a new intellectual property – an online fantasy RPG.
A world and game built from the core to entertain players and evolve over the years. It feels familiar, but at the same time, IO Interactive is on a journey unlike anything we’ve done before.
For many, this journey is a very personal one that started long before we started making games for a living – and it started with the fantasy genre. Fighting Fantasy books force you to choose your path, alone, against wizards, lizards, and thief kings. To the togetherness, friendship, suffering, and joy found around the table.
For some, this means taking on the role of the game master: Part storyteller, part AI opponent, part guide, and part villain. For everyone around that table, it means creativity, imagination, world-building, and also the shared goal of creating a great gaming experience.
This idea that a diverse group of individuals with different skills and strengths can work together and become more than the sum of their parts-is what inspires us. It inspires the fantasy worlds we build-and inspires how we build them.
IO Interactive has several different studios, ranging from Copenhagen and Malmo in the north to warm Barcelona in the south. All studios take part in the creation of all our games, including this new venture. People from all over the world with diverse personalities and skill sets came together to make a fresh start.
