Activision Blizzard Claims Nintendo’s New Console Has PS4 and Xbox One Performance
According to internal materials made public as part of Microsoft’s hearing with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Activision Blizzard executives, including Bobby Kotick, met with Nintendo executives, including Shuntaro Furukawa, to talk about a successor to the Nintendo Switch on December 15, 2022.
An internal document that has the name “NG Switch Draft.pdf” and was sent by Christopher Schnakenberg, Activision’s head of platform strategy and partner relations, seems to have indicated that Activision Blizzard expects the performance of this new console to be comparable to the PS4 and Xbox One.
Given the closer alignment with the Gen 8 platform in terms of performance and our previous offerings on PS4/Xbox One, it’s reasonable to assume that we can create something interesting for the NG Switch as well.
It would be helpful if we could get early access to prototype development hardware and prove it out early.
Christopher Schnakenberg, Senior Vice President, Global Platform Strategy & Partner Relations at Activision Blizzard
VGC previously reported that Nintendo has shipped dev kits of the new console to key partners, with a planned launch in the second half of 2024.
With this internal material, it is certain that Activision Blizzard is one of the main partners in question.
