Rumor: Nintendo’s New Console Coming in Spring 2024
Nikkei Asia reports that the development of Nintendo’s latest console is “going well”. “Development seems to be going well,” Nikkei Asia writes. “But the launch of this product will not happen before next spring at the earliest.”
During the FY24 financial call, Shuntaro Furukawa stated that amid slowing sales of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo is not fully confident of reaching its next 15 million unit target.
According to Bloomberg, Furukawa noted that no new or upgraded hardware was factored into Nintendo’s annual forecast.
Maintaining the Switch’s sales momentum will be difficult in its seventh year. Our target of selling 15 million units this fiscal year is a bit difficult. But we will do our best to increase demand going into the holiday season so that we can achieve that target.

Interestingly, a recent report by Bloomberg says that Sharp will make LCDs for “new game consoles”. Sharp has a long history of working with Nintendo, including providing LCD screens for the Nintendo DS and acting as an assembler for the Nintendo Switch.

“Nintendo Switch Price Will Not Be Cut”
On the other hand, Furukawa added that cutting prices to boost Nintendo Switch sales is not an option that is currently being considered.
Regarding hardware, the price of certain materials has come down but the overall cost remains high. We must also continue to take into account the impact of various factors, such as inflation and foreign exchange rates.
Production was severely affected during the previous fiscal year, so we made sure our parts procurement was done far enough in advance to ensure stable production.
Even if raw material prices fall, it will take time to be reflected in manufacturing costs. Currently, there are no plans to lower our hardware prices during this fiscal year.
On the other hand, although we also have no plans to raise prices, the yen continues to weaken and procurement costs remain high, so we will continue to monitor the situation carefully.
