Nintendo urges GameStop to fire the employee who leaked Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom Switch

A GameStop employee who sparked speculation regarding the Nintendo Switch OLED model The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom claims that he has officially been fired after pressure from Nintendo.

Although it has been officially confirmed by Nintendo, fans have long expected the Nintendo Switch OLED model to arrive with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

When Massachusetts GameStop employee Mike saw the entry “HW TBD Switch” appear on his store’s system, it wasn’t too surprising. Mike then took a picture of the screen and uploaded it to Reddit.

As Kotaku reports, the Reddit post was quickly traced back to Mike using his account name and publicly identifiable details. Within two weeks, he was fired.

Mike revealed that he made the post to let fans know to get ready for pre-orders, but he didn’t realize that he had violated GameStop’s official employee policy.

Unfortunately, Nintendo took a different view. Mike is said to have been told by his superiors “off the record” that Nintendo requested Mike should be fired from his post.
