Naoki Yoshida: Final Fantasy XVI Has 11 Hours of Cinematics

Speaking on the global media tour for Final Fantasy XVI, Naoki Yoshida said that Final Fantasy XVI will have “over 11 hours of cinematic cutscenes in the main scenario alone”.

Final Fantasy XVI has been developed with a focus on 4 main pillars-things that players have come to expect from games in the series. So, first and foremost, narrative. For this game, we wanted to go back to the rich, high fantasy roots of the franchise, something complex and interwoven, something that touches on politics and justice and values that will appeal not only to young fans who are just dipping their toes into this world, but also to older fans who have experienced a lot.

One thing that was important to us was to tell a complete story, from start to finish, and at that point, we thought we had succeeded. To facilitate this, there are over 11 hours of cinematic cutscenes in the main scenario alone, all seamlessly woven into the gameplay experience, played out in the engine in real time.

Secondly, we have an extensive cast. Each character has a unique background and motivation, and each has a unique storyline that plays out throughout the narrative. While the main focus is on Clive Rosfield, as he seeks revenge for the loss of his family and nation, through this journey, players will witness the fates of the remaining players collide.
