Meta ends Meta Quest support, why?

Meta has announced plans to end support for the Meta Quest VR headset. While owners will still be able to use the headset and its “available” apps, Meta will no longer ship new features for Meta Quest.

In an email sent to UploadVR, Meta said that users will no longer be able to create or join parties and those who currently have access to Meta Horizon Home will lose access on March 5, 2023.

Meta Quest first launched in May 2019 and its successor, Meta Quest 2, launched in October 2020.

Below is the email that UploadVR got:

We launched Quest 1 over 4 years ago and we thank the Quest 1 community for pushing VR forward. As we look to the future, we remain committed to supporting the Quest 1 user community and will continue to support the headset with some changes:

  1. You can continue to use your Quest 1 headset and the available apps.
  2. We will not be delivering any new features to Quest 1.
  3. We plan to continue maintaining the system software with critical bug fixes and security patches until 2024.
  4. Quest 1 users will no longer be able to create or join parties.

Quest 1 users who currently have access to Meta Horizon Home social features will lose access to those features on March 5, 2023. You will not be able to invite others to your Home or visit anyone else’s Home.
