Media Molecule has revealed that Dreams will end direct support on September 1, 2023 as they shift their focus to “exciting new projects”.

Players will still be able to play, create, and share Dreams with other users after September 1, 2023, but further updates to the game will not be launched and events such as DreamsCom, All Hallows’ Dreams, and the Impy Awards will no longer be held.

A few more updates are also planned before direct support ends, including Trends, “significant improvements” to animations, and a final Create mode update.

Below is the full message from Media Molecule:

As we continue to evaluate and evolve our priorities for the studio and Dreams, we’ve made the difficult decision to cease direct support for Dreams after September 1, 2023 to shift our focus to exciting new projects. You’ll continue to be able to play, create, and share Dreams with others after September, but we won’t be releasing any updates to the game or events like DreamsCom, All Hallows’ Dreams, or the Impy Awards. We’re very proud of the work we’ve done developing Dreams – such as content releases, Create updates, and live events – and we’re very grateful to the community for their continued trust and contributions since launch.

While this is challenging news, we have several updates that will be rolling out soon, including the much-anticipated Trends, significant animation improvements, and our last Create mode update.

We’ll continue to share and celebrate creations in Dreams with the wider world through our social channels, our streams, Impsider roundups, and more. We’ll continue our in-game curation work to ensure the Dreamiverse feels as alive as ever and showcases the amazing creations of you, our community, for all to enjoy.

We know this isn’t an easy message for everyone to hear, and it certainly wasn’t an easy decision – Dreams has been a special project for Media Molecule and helping this growing community of game developers, activists, creatives, collaborators and dreamers to thrive and express themselves remains one of the best things we’ve ever done. Thank you for being a part of us – we look forward to you joining us on our next adventure.
