EA: Marvel’s New Deal Driven by Star Wars Success

During the Q2 FY23 earnings call, EA was asked if they could offer more details on the deal with Marvel Games that will see EA develop three Marvel games.

The three Marvel games include:

  1. Iron Man (Motive Studio).
  2. Black Panther (rumoured).
  3. Not yet been announced.

While EA declined to go into more detail about the deal, the company said that it seeks to make this a “cooperative” and creative partnership rather than a “transactional” one.

In addition, the decision to sign a new deal with Disney was a result of the previous Star Wars deal where EA said, “more than 40 percent of Star Wars players go on to play other EA games.”

In 2013, EA signed a ten-year deal that allowed the company to exclusively make Star Wars games for Lucasfilm. The result was games like Star Wars Battlefront, Star Wars Battlefront II, Star Wars: Squadrons, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

According to EA, the Star Wars deal should be considered an overall success considering the interest it generated in players to play EA’s other games. This also makes EA hopeful of repeating the same success with Marvel.
