Swen Vincke: Larian Studios Will Not Be Sold
As of June 2023, an internal document from Microsoft stemming from a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) legal hearing has listed several studios that could potentially be acquired, including Larian Studios.
Speaking with Bloomberg, Swen Vincke was asked if he has any plans to sell his studio that has been established since 1996.
Vincke says that while such conjecture is “always flattering”, he has no plans to sell his studio anytime soon. “I’m getting older, but I’m certainly not finished,” Vincke said.
According to Vincke, a new owner other than himself might pressure Larian Studios to maximize profits while limiting its creative options.
The strength of this company is that I’m very invested in the game and I also make the final decisions. We can do a lot to serve the games we make.

On the other side of the interview, Vincke has revealed that he doesn’t know what Larian Studios will do next yet, although he hopes to work on some games and expressed his desire to make something smaller.
Vincke also added that he certainly doesn’t want to spend another 6 years developing a game like what happened with Baldur’s Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is already available on PC (Steam, GOG). The PS5 version will release on September 6, 2023, while the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions are still being developed.
