Sony Investigates Insomniac Games Hacking Report

Cyber Daily reports that the Rhysida ransomware group has published data online that appears to substantiate its claim that it has successfully hacked Insomniac Games.

According to Cyber Daily, Rhysida’s hacking data evidence includes annotated screenshots of Marvel’s Wolverine and artwork of other Marvel characters that will appear in the game.

In addition, the evidence also included scans of employee passports, personal documents related to Spider-Man voice actor Yuri Lowenthal, internal emails, and confidential documents.

Rhysida threatened to make the data public within 7 days and held an auction for the data with a starting price of 50 Bitcoin or about 2 million US dollars.

“With only 7 days to go, seize the opportunity to bid on exclusive, unique and impressive data,” Rhysida threatened. “Open your wallets and get ready to buy exclusive data. We only sell to one hand, no resale, you will be the only owner!”

Hours after the report, Sony Interactive Entertainment has told VGC that they are looking into it.

“SIE is aware of a report that Insomniac Games has been the victim of a cybersecurity attack,” said Sony Interactive Entertainment. “We are investigating this situation. We have no reason to believe that any other SIE or Sony division has been affected.”
