Speaking with Game Watch, Masayoshi Yokoyama said that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a “monster-class” video game.

“Those games take a long time for you to complete, don’t they? [Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name] doesn’t take too long, but Infinite Wealth is a monster-class game that takes longer than any game we’ve ever made,” Yokoyama said.

“If you play it continuously, you will get sick and this game will not end with just one or two plays. This means that many people will hesitate to play this game or it will end up waiting on their shelves.”

Yokoyama added, “I feel sad about the possibility of such an outcome, so I think we should make everyone excited enough to play it.”

Yokoyama said that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio had to create a “festival-like atmosphere” in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth to get players excited to play it as quickly as possible, “even at the expense of their health”.

“We have to get people to play this game in about a week or a month, even at the expense of their health, because it’s our job as game creators to get them excited,” Yokoyama said.

“I’ve been thinking like this for the past year or two. For a game like Infinite Wealth, we had to make a festival. It would be rude if we also stopped such a long game and just finished it.”

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC (SteamMicrosoft Store) on January 26, 2024.
