Immortals Fenyx Rising sequel canceled?

VGC reports that Ubisoft has canceled plans for a sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising. According to Insider Gaming, this sequel has the internal name “Project Oxygen”.

VGC claims that the sequel was in early development at Ubisoft Québec, but Ubisoft ultimately decided to cancel it early in July 2023 due to challenges in building the IP. Insider Gaming adds that this was conveyed in an internal email sent to employees 2 weeks ago.

VGC added that plans for the Immortals franchise are in doubt after Ubisoft decided to move on to its most prominent brands such as Assassin’s Creed.

In January 2023, Ubisoft had canceled 3 unannounced games, but VGC claimed that one of those games did not include a sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising.

VGC added that Immortals Fenyx Rising did gain a few players, but most of them came from discounts. Its sales in Europe are about 70% lower than what Assassin’s Creed Valhalla managed to achieve in the same timeframe.

In addition, Insider Gaming also added that the sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising will be set in Polynesia. The trailer shows that characters can shapeshift into different mythical creatures.

Different creatures will allow the main character to do various things including flying, swimming, and controlling the classic elements: fire, air, earth, and water.

According to Insider Gaming, the sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising could actually launch within 18 months, with development starting in 2021.
