Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Takes 150 GB, Vincent Unplayable

Square Enix recently stated that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will require 150 GB of storage. In addition, the game is 1:1 scale with the original game world map and Vincent Valentine is not playable by players.

This information was revealed by Naoki Hamaguchi and Tetsuya Nomura during interviews with Game Informer and Press Start Australia. If you are interested in Square Enix’s games, you can check out our other articles here.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Takes 150 GB, Vincent Unplayable

Speaking with Game Informer, Naoki Hamaguchi stated that Final Fantasy VII Rebirthis 150 GB in size, with 100 GB on one disk and 50 GB on the other. However, players will not swap disks as was done with the original version.

Due to the architecture of the PS5, players will need to install the entire game by inserting both disks. After that, only one of the disks will be needed to play the game in full.

Hamaguchi explained that the decision to separate Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in this way had less to do with reviving nostalgia and more as a method of maintaining the original team’s lofty vision.

Square Enix has always envisioned Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as a huge, highly detailed world that’s more immersive than the Midgar revamped Final Fantasy VIII Remake.

Therefore, condensing them onto a single disk would force designers to cut down on content and ideas, so duplicating disks became the obvious solution.

Tetsuya Nomura also answered questions about Vincent Valentine’s brief appearance in the latest trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Nomura said that Vincent will join the group as part of the main story of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth this time, however, he is not playable.

In another interview, Hamaguchi told Press Start Australia that the world map of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be 1:1 scale with the original map.

What we’ve done is taken the world map from the original Final Fantasy VII, but we created everything in the same scale as the original. So all the dungeons, all the cities, everything in that world is now included in the same space. One seamless map.

Naoki Hamaguchi, Director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will release on PS5 on February 29, 2024. The game will be exclusive to PS5 for 3 months before releasing to other platforms.
