Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, Andrew Wilson outlined a plan that he believes could lead to “tremendous growth” for Apex Legends.

According to Wilson, Apex Legends is one of the most successful new IP launches in the last 10-15 years by building a community of “hundreds of millions of players” as well as an enviable churn rate.

If you think about streaming services dealing with 40% and 50% churn, we have a core community in Apex that has 75% retention over a 5-year period – it’s an amazing franchise.

But in the growth of the franchise, we’ve seen ups and downs and where we’ve gotten to with Apex, we have the first group of communities that have been with us for 5 years and these communities are huge, global, and very engaged.

Wilson also discussed EA’s strategy for developing franchises like Apex Legends over the next 5-10 years:

Apex Legends: Breakout is the most fluid, fast-paced, and rewarding game felt in years by focusing on simplicity and removing as many obstacles to shooting other players as possible.

The next phase is how do we think about more game modalities, how do you evolve the traditional battle royale world? We’ll start to see that in the coming year.

The third phase is how do we view broader culturalization? There are so many markets, especially in Europe and Asia, that we have yet to penetrate.

There is tremendous interest, tremendous receptivity to intellectual property, and we have yet to reach common ground in terms of acquisition, engagement, and monetization.

As we think about it going forward, as you make it more user-friendly, as you start adding more things to do in the world, expanding the modality of play, and you start civilizing the people around you in a meaningful way in markets that we haven’t recognized yet, we think there will be tremendous growth in the future.
