Bandai Namco Denies Using AI in Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections

Last week, Bandai Namco was slammed for voice-overs in Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections that caused an uproar among the cast and voice actors.

In response to one of the bizarre clips, voice actor Maile Flanagan claimed that she did not utter such a line in the recording booth. She added that neither she nor any of the voice directors would have found it acceptable.

“I can guarantee I didn’t say that sentence like that,” said Flanagan on X. “Where did that come from? I guarantee you that no voice actor for Naruto or game would ever tell me to do it that way.”

Michael Schwalbe, who plays Kawaki in Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, replied to a similar comment criticizing the dubbing of one of his lines.

“You have good ears, we don’t,” revealed Schwalbe at X. “They give you a list of dialog and we open the page, do two takes, and it might say ‘final attack’, ‘small pain’, and ‘attacking’.”

“I swear to God, I don’t remember that this was the dialog for the attack, because there’s no way I would have done that.”

Schwalbe also accuses Bandai Namco of using AI by sending some of these clips to a friend and running the audio through an AI detection program.

Now, Bandai Namco has denied using AI dubbing in Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections to IGN.

Bandai Namco added that the company regrets the appearance of the voiceover in Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections and is now working on a fix that should arrive “in the near future”.

“Regarding reports of some dubbed dialog in Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, Bandai Namco Entertainment can confirm that the dialog in question is not AI-generated, but is the result of inconsistencies during the editing and mastering process,” a Bandai Namco spokesperson told IGN.

“We regret that this has caused concern among Naruto fans and the dubbing community. We are currently working to fix the voice lines in question, which will be patched in the near future.”
