SEGA Targets 5 Million Copies for Persona 6 with Multiplatform Release

During a Q&A session in Q2 2023, an investor asked if there was a possibility that, with its popularity overseas, the Persona franchise could sell 5 million copies in its first year.

Haruki Atami (representative director, president, CEO) and Koichi Fukasawa (director, senior managing executive office, CFO) of SEGA Sammy answered:

“By increasing the number of available platforms and release regions, we have increased the sales of Persona 5. We believe that a large Persona title, such as a numbered release, can sell as many as 5 million copies in its first year by releasing it on multiple platforms and simultaneously around the world from day one. We also have high expectations for the IP Metaphor: ReFantazio from the developers of Persona 5.”

Persona Central notes that no Persona game has sold more than 5 million copies in its first year. With this answer, it marks the first time SEGA believes that Persona 6 could sell more and faster with multiplatform and concurrent release methods.
