Failure to Sell Much, Sony Temporarily Stop Production of PlayStation VR2?

Bloomberg reports that Sony Group Corporation has temporarily halted production of the PlayStation VR2 until the company clears its backlog of unsold units.

According to Bloomberg, sales of PlayStation VR2 have slowed progressively since its launch in February 2023 while the stock of the VR headset continues to grow.

Bloomberg adds that Sony Group Corporation has produced more than 2 million units of PlayStation VR2 since its launch in February 2023. It is still unclear how much unsold stock there is from that production.

In addition, Bloomberg noted that a surplus of assembled devices occurred throughout Sony Group Corporation’s supply chain.

In May 2023, Sony Interactive Entertainment had announced that PlayStation VR2 sold nearly 600K units in its first 6 weeks of release. Since then, Sony Interactive Entertainment has never announced its sales again.

In February 2024, Sony Interactive Entertainment also announced that it was testing PC support for PlayStation VR2 with a planned launch of 2024.
